Stuart Island

In 2006 the Stuart Island recovery team implemented a successful enhancement program incubating and rearing 160,000 Chinook juveniles that will be released in July 2007. They also reared and released 30,000 coho to the local watersheds. At the end of the 2006 year, the team was in the process of becoming community directed with the Gillard Pass Fisheries Association taking on the lead role for recovery efforts. At the end of 2006, with a new Board of Directors and reaffirmed local support, the Gillard Pass Fisheries Association was in the process of becoming community directed, locally funded and ready to begin planning for a successful 2007 season.
