Description
Pacific Salmon Foundation’s fifth annual Nanaimo Gala Dinner & Auction was held on November 24, 2007 at Beban Park and, due to the dedication of dinner chair Mel Sheng and the volunteer organizing committee, was once again a sold out success,. Proceeds from this event will be directed to salmon conservation, restoration and enhancement activities in the local region through PSF’s Community Salmon Program. As well, PSF will direct $5,000.00 to Trout Unlimited Canada in support the work being conducted by Malaspina College with Coastal Cutthroat Trout.
The evening kicked off with a cocktail reception and silent auction with over 100 exciting prizes donated by local artists and businesses. During the reception a delicious seafood appetizer bar, contributed by Albion Seafoods, Bitz & Bratz, Hub City Fisheries and Blue Ginger was served. The dinner buffet was catered by the Coast Bastion Inn. Complimentary table wine was provided courtesy of Nanaimo & District Fish & Game Protective Association.
Following Dinner, an exciting live auction was conducted by Brian Fisher and featured original artwork, vacation packages and fishing adventures including an Alberta fly fishing package, contributed by Trout Unlimited Canada. Mr. Fisher was interrupted by “Santa” Fox McKinley and his wife “Mrs. Claus” (Deb McKinley) of Qualicum Beach who arrived with bells on to take over the microphone and auction off several Christmas items, including decorated Christmas trees, a Vancouver Carol Ship package and a New Year’s party at the Coast Bastion Inn.
PSF would like to thank all dinner volunteers, donors, and sponsors for making this event a success for salmon. Special mention to the student volunteers from Malaspina College and to volunteer Dinner MC, Bob Cole of Port Alberni.
