Thank you to everyone who participated in BC Wild Salmon Day! There was an incredible uptake on social media with salmon supporters, advocates, government officials, and partners posting hundreds of messages on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. We had several special messages from government, partners and friends, including the Ministry of Land, Water, and Resource Sustainability, Hon. Minister Nathan Cullen, PS Fin Donnelly, PS Kelly Green, Minister George Heyman, Department of Fisheries and Oceans Minister Joyce Murray , accessibility and salmon champion Rick Hansen, VIA’s Bob Kronbauer and even a very fishy video from local TikTok creator Shelby Wilson.
Several groups used Wild Salmon Day to launch important content and initiatives – including biologist and fishing expert Fishing with Rod who marked the day by releasing his episode “Reclaiming Fraser River Estuary for Juvenile Salmon”, The Real Estate Foundation of BC launch the Indigenous graphic novel “We Are of Water”, as well as Vancouver Island Brewing Company who launched their Lighter Side Contest in support of PSF. White Rock Elementary School kids held a salmon-themed fundraiser and puppet show for PSF and SHARP.
Thank you for your contributions to BC Wild Salmon Day – as one of our supporters said: “Today is BC Wild Salmon Day, but so is every day”!
