DFO Wild Salmon Policy: ecosystem values and indicators workshop March 21 & 22, 2007, Vancouver, BC
Abstract
Canada’s Policy for the Conservation of Wild Pacific Salmon (WSP) sets the framework for conserving wild Pacific salmon populations in BC and the Yukon. The WSP includes six strategies, the second and third of which are about habitat and ecosystem values and indicators.
Consultations to date have provided strong support for taking an ecosystem approach to salmon conservation, but there has been little concrete direction on how this should occur. DFO has begun extensive work on habitat indicators, and are now looking to develop a framework for ecosystem values. The purpose of this workshop was to begin that process through a collaborative approach.
