Wild Salmon need our help.
With two-thirds of Pacific salmon populations in British Columbia and the Yukon below their long-term averages, it’s going to take all of us to help salmon recover.
At PSF, we are all in for salmon.
We are taking action to save and restore wild Pacific salmon and the ecosystems they depend on. And where our restoration efforts have been concentrated, we are seeing hopeful signs of recovery.
With the help of our donors and supporters, salmon are beating the odds. Will you beat the odds, too? Donate now through Giving Tuesday for your chance to win an awesome prize package. The more you give, the more chances you have to win, and the more we can do for salmon!
Your donation matters.
Your donation funds our independent science, community initiatives, and restoration work, like these projects.
Restoring an oasis in an arid landscape.
In B.C.’s Interior, PSF is supporting major restoration of valuable freshwater habitat in the Deadman River near Kamloops. Partners at the Skeetchestn Indian Band are working to restore native cottonwood forests along the river. This revitalization will support stream health by preventing erosion, improving water quality, and providing critical shade and shelter.
On the frontlines of climate change.
With support from PSF, a team of biologists and Indigenous Guardians used drones and snorkels to map the Coldwater River and identify thermal refuges—naturally occurring, distinct patches that are cooler than surrounding waters, making them essential to salmon survival.
Tracking salmon survival.
Since 2020, PSF has worked with partners to tag more than a quarter of a million Chinook, coho, and steelhead in hatcheries, rivers, estuaries, and in the ocean on eastern Vancouver Island. The project now tracks fish tagged as juveniles, giving new insights into factors affecting survival rates.
