2025 saw headline-making returns of Fraser River sockeye and pink salmon, along with renewed optimism and a sense of what is possible. Habitat restoration projects, supported by the Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF) and our community of donors, are having a real impact.
But it’s not all good news. Two-thirds of Pacific salmon populations in B.C. and the Yukon are below their long-term averages, according to findings from our 2025 State of Salmon Report. And these populations are facing many threats — including habitat loss, toxic chemicals, and catastrophic climate events such as droughts and forest fires.
Recovering wild Pacific salmon is going to take all of us.
At PSF, we are taking action to save and restore wild Pacific salmon and the ecosystems they depend on. Through our independent science, policy leadership, and investment in high-impact restoration projects, we’re focused on identifying and removing urgent threats and bringing salmon back, stream by stream.
Where our efforts have been concentrated, we’re seeing hopeful signs of recovery — but there is still much more to do.
