This Dragon Creek Culvert Replacement and Daylighting project had developed partnerships between Baker Creek Enhancement Society, DFO engineering staff, City of Quesnel, Lhtako Dene Nation, Ministry of Transportation, West Fraser Timber Park and Cariboo Regional District for the enhancement of Dragon Creek Watershed. We have had discussions with Lhtako about the possibility of coming in as a funding partner in future works and perhaps creating employment for band members. There are some upstream issues with flooding that the City of Quesnel, MOE and DFO are working through. There is additional information that needs to be collected before the culvert replacement begins. There have been new staff and elected officials that have not been involved in the past planning of this project and we are in the process of presenting the project again to ensure we all have the same information.
There has been and will continue to be a need for meetings to exchange updated information, concerns and issues within the whole watershed not just for the culvert replacement.
Once further funding is secured and information is collected the culvert will be replaced and the volunteer planting and education will begin.
Everyone involved in Dragon Creek has committed to it’s long term health and restoration where required.
