RBC Tech for Nature donation

The Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF) is honoured to receive an RBC Tech for Nature donation from the RBC Foundation. “For more than 10 years, the RBC Foundation has been a generous supporter of PSF’s scientific initiatives, beginning with the RBC Blue Water Project, and now the RBC Tech for Nature funding,” says Michael Meneer, PSF President and CEO. “PSF’s Salish Sea Marine Survival Project stresses the importance of nearshore habitats for the early marine life of  juvenile salmon, in particular the presence of eelgrass and bull kelp, which act as protective nurseries.”

Funding from RBC Tech for Nature will be directed to and support satellite remote sensing technologies essential to mapping the resilience and persistence of kelp throughout the Salish Sea. Scientists  will also identify resilient strains of kelp needed for restoration and maintenance of ocean health, now and for  future climates, and will lead to the opportunity of both ecological and genetic diversity of these marine plants and the ecosystems they help support. Their findings will work to  ensure the survival of Pacific salmon for future generations.

“Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time,” adds Valerie Chort, Vice-President, Corporate Citizenship, RBC. “We are committed to bringing the power of innovative technologies to address and scale solutions to some of the most pressing environmental issues of our time.”
