Last fall a collaborative effort near Lillooet gave thousands of salmon the chance to migrate upstream to spawning grounds after becoming stuck at a section of rapids that was blocked off by low flows due to drought. This project was led by Xwísten (Bridge River Indian Band), Xaxli’p (formerly known as Fountain Band), and Upper Fraser Fisheries Conservation Alliance, and supported by PSF, First Nations Fisheries Council of B.C., DFO, and the Province of B.C. It was one of more than a dozen rapid drought response projects supported by PSF’s Climate Emergency Fund in 2023.
