Knowledge Exchange Workshop Series
The Knowledge Exchange Workshop Series is co-presented by Fisheries & Oceans Canada (DFO) and the Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF).
DFO and PSF are pleased to provide an opportunity to share knowledge on some of the latest restoration practices and research from researchers, scientists, and field professionals working in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
You can access the presentations and video playlists for each of the 2022, 2023, and 2024 workshops below.
Restoring Watershed Resilience Workshop
November 14th, 2024
As climate change and land-use practices alter the disturbance regime of river corridors, there is growing awareness of the need to increase watershed resilience as part of Pacific salmon recovery efforts. This virtual workshop brings together experts in watershed science to discuss habitat restoration approaches to increasing watershed resilience. Strategies for increasing the absorbing capacity of the watershed, restoring connectivity, project planning and implementation, and bridging project-scale actions to a watershed-scale response are discussed through practical case study examples and the most current science.
Restoring Our Shores: Armour Removal and Nature-Based Solutions Workshop
June 20th, 2024
DFO and PSF bring together experts in coastal science and restoration to present information on shoreline monitoring, armour removal strategies, and alternative nature-based protection options. With the increasing threat of climate change comes opportunity to improve shoreline protection practices that promote resilience for coastal communities by providing protective services as well as ecosystem benefits essential to Pacific salmon recovery. Through case studies and project examples, the panel of experts share insights on the challenges and opportunities to restore these integral habitats.
Lessons Learned from Intensively Monitored Watersheds Workshop
March 26, 2024
DFO and PSF are pleased to bring together lead scientists from Washington State to present results and share their experiences from 20+ years of habitat restoration and monitoring in Intensively Monitored Watersheds. Their presentations provide insights into restoration strategies that worked, or didn’t work, and why, as well as provide guidance to inform restoration tools and project design.
Nearshore Salmon Habitat Restoration in the Context of Climate Resilience Workshop
January 31, 2024
DFO and PSF are pleased to provide an opportunity to share knowledge on practices and standards for nearshore salmon habitat restoration in the context of climate resilience from a diverse panel of researchers, scientists and field professionals working in the Pacific Region and beyond.
Restoration Monitoring Workshop
March 14th, 2023
DFO and PSF are pleased to provide an opportunity to share knowledge on practices and standards for restoration effectiveness monitoring from a diverse panel of researchers, scientists and field professionals working in the Pacific Region and beyond.
